International Network for Environmental Compliance & Enforcement

The Institute serves as Secretariat for the International Network for Environmental Compliance & Enforcement (INECE), a network of over 4,000 government and non-government environmental practitioners from over 150 countries.

Founded in 1990 by the environmental agencies of the Netherlands and the United States, in partnership with UNEP, the European Commission, the World Bank, the OECD and other organizations, INECE is the principal global network of independent experts dedicated to pursuing the rule of law, good environmental governance, and sustainable development at all levels of governance, local to global.

INECE links the efforts of practitioners around the world – regulators, parliamentarians, judges, inspectors, prosecutors and citizens – to advance sustainable development, with the specific goals of:

• Raising awareness of environmental compliance and enforcement
• Developing regional and topical networks for enforcement cooperation
• Strengthening capacity to implement and enforce environmental requirements
