OEWG38 Side Event: Case Study of Energy Efficiency and Price of Room ACs in Brazil

July 21, 2016

This OEWG38 event highlighted the importance of requiring the room air conditioners sold in developing countries to achieve the same high efficiency demanded in developed countries and the opportunity to upgrade energy efficiency when high-GWP HFCs are phased down under the proposed Montreal Amendment.  This Brazil case study documents that air conditioners sold in Brazil have far lower energy efficiency than the products sold by the same companies in developed countries. The study is original and unique because a certification lab contrasts brands for the same size AC mini splits.
