Selena Bateman is a Law Fellow at IGSD focusing on strategic litigation to protect the climate. Selena helps support IGSD’s work on the Advisory Opinion being sought from the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. This litigation will clarify the foundation and scope of the human rights affected by climate change in the Americas, and States’ obligations to protect those human rights.
Prior to IGSD, Selena worked as the Counsel Assisting the Solicitor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia and clerked at the Federal Court of Australia and the High Court of Australia. She was also a lawyer at the Australian Government Solicitor, litigating in state and federal courts around Australia.
Selena holds a Masters Degree in Law from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from the Australian National University. She has taught courses in law and public policy at the University of Melbourne and Australian National University.
